Councilman Bulgo Scrambles

When Maui County Councilman Joe Bulgo was asked to define "motorcycle scrambling" at a council meeting last week, he rose ceremoniously from his chair.

"It's a complicated rite," he explained, illustrating with his hands, "which consists of going up and over mounds."

Revving his engine, Bulgo popped the clutch into first, expounding on the glories of dodging this way and that and swerving here and there.

In was an effective discourse, for, as the laughter died down, Bulgo's resolution seeking scrambling sites for cycling enthusiasts was passed.

The resolution now will receive pit stops with the mayor, the county attorney, the parks director and the council's committee on parks and recreation.
